Thorbjörn Andersson, Professor, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences

Thorbjörn is an elected member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts who studied landscape architecture, architecture and art history in Sweden and USA, and is currently professor in practice at SLU Ultuna, Sweden in addition to his practice.

Former teaching experience includes Professeur invité at EPFL-ENAC in Lausanne, Switzerland (2004), Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, Boston, USA (2001), and University of Illinois in Urbana Champaign, USA (2006).

Throughout the years, Thorbjörn Andersson has done a wide range of projects but is probably most known for his work in planning and designing public spaces in the city. As one of Sweden’s most prominent landscape architects, his work has won several prizes and been given international attention. A selection of his built projects has been published in the book Platser/Places. He was the founder and editor of Utblick Landskap magazine and has been the author or co-author of a number of books, for instance The Architecture of Landscape 1940-1960 (ed. M. Treib).

A selection of his recent work includes the Physic Garden at Campus Novartis, Basel, Hyllie Plaza, Malmö, Sandgrund Park, Karlstad, University Campus Park, Umeå, and Dania Park in Malmö. Thorbjörn Anderssons practise work also includes projects in Portugal, China, Switzerland and other countries.


For his efforts, Thorbjörn Andersson has been the recipient of the Prince Eugene Medal from HM the King of Sweden.
